Equate earns Kuwait’s first Leed Silver certification

KUWAIT, May 21, 2018

Kuwait-based Equate Petrochemical Company, a global producer of petrochemicals, recently earned the Leed-Silver Building Design & Construction (BD+C) certification for its new headquarters, which fully complies with the US Green Building Council Leed programme, thus becoming a pioneer for green buildings in Kuwait.

Leed (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the most widely used green building rating system in the world and provides an international framework to establish healthy, efficient and cost-saving green buildings. Equate’s headquarters, extending over 16,500 sq m, is the first building in Kuwait to receive the Leed-Silver (BD+C) certification for its design and construction.

Commenting on this achievement, engineering and construction department director Sulaiman Albader said: “From the initial design of this new headquarters, we set our sights on making a difference in the green building movement. Our building conserves energy consumption through the reduction of water usage by 36 per cent, utilises solar energy to generate around eight per cent of the total building consumption, and achieves energy cost savings of 26 per cent, all of which make it an ideal green building in Kuwait. This achievement and all others were realised through the performance excellence of our human capital who deserve utmost appreciation and gratitude.”

The Equate Group is a global producer of petrochemicals and the world’s second largest producer of ethylene glycol (EG). The group has industrial complexes in Kuwait, North America and Europe that annually produce over five million tons of ethylene, ethylene glycol (EG), polyethylene (PE) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The products are marketed throughout Asia, the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The Equate Group’s shareholders include Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC), The Dow Chemical Company (Dow), Boubyan Petrochemical Company (BPC) and Qurain Petrochemical Industries Company (QPIC). - TradeArabia News Service
