Ducab starts work on new global HQ in Dubai

DUBAI, May 21, 2018

UAE-based Ducab, a global leader in the manufacture of copper and aluminium wire and cable products, has broken ground on its new global headquarters building at Jebel Ali free zone in Dubai.

The new Ducab headquarters will be environmentally responsive, built to achieve a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (Leed) Gold certification when completed in 2019, said a statement from the company.

The three-storey headquarters building will have a total built-up area of 4,053 sq m, with a roof deck garden, it stated.

The ground-breaking ceremony was attended by leading Ducab officials including chairman Jamal Salem Al Dhaheri, the vice chairman Dr Ahmad bin Hassan Al Shaikh; board member Mabkhoot Al Menhali and managing director Andrew Shaw.

Having recently added overhead conductors to its portfolio, Ducab works with customers around the world, expanding from its home market in the UAE to the wider Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australasia, Europe, and the Americas.

The event was also attended by Ramboll managing director (Middle East and Asia) Richard Beard and Jasaf Building Technology Company Group managing director John E. Alford, said the statement.

Alongside its commitment to environmental conservatism, Ducab will echo the area’s indigenous plant life by creating a tree plantation, which is inspired by the memory of the Founding Father of the UAE, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who was an avid environmentalist, it added.

Ducab, founded in 1979, is jointly owned by the Investment Corporation of Dubai and Senaat (General Holding Corporation, Abu Dhabi).

As of 2018, the group comprises several business units: Ducab Wires and Cables; Ducab High Voltage (HV), a joint venture between Ducab, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) and Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (Adwea); Ducab Metals, which supplies copper rod and wire to the region; and Ducab Aluminium Company, a joint venture between Ducab and Senaat which manufactures aluminium rod and conductors.

Ducab operates six manufacturing facilities across four sites in the UAE with all its production based within the country. With revenues close to $1.5 billion and employing over 1,500, the company serves customers worldwide in the fields of energy, general construction, oil and gas, renewables, industrial, defence, rail transport, marine, mining and other specialty industry verticals.-TradeArabia News Service
