Sheikh Mohammed tours Irena facilities

ABU DHABI, August 2, 2016

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai visited the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena) facilities in Abu Dhabi yesterday (August1).

He was received at the Irena headquarters by Irena director-general Adnan Z. Amin. Sheikh Mohammed was accompanied by Dr Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of State and chairman of Masdar.

Sheikh Mohammed and Amin exchanged views on the latest renewable energy developments in Dubai and the UAE, including Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050, and the third phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which recently received global attention for its record-low solar power cost.

Amin provided an overview of Irena's journey over the last five years to become the global voice for renewable energy as Sheikh Mohammed toured the agency's facilities.

Amin expressed gratitude to the UAE for contributing to the agency’s success, calling it a reflection of the UAE’s renewable energy leadership.

“The UAE has become a trendsetter in renewable energy deployment and Dubai has played a key role in making that happen, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid,” said Amin. “The UAE recognises that an essential component for the further development of renewable energy will be the empowerment of government agencies to take a holistic approach to energy regulation.”

Sheikh Mohammed was also accompanied by Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid AlMaktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed AlMaktoum, chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and chairman of Emirates Group; and Khalifa Saeed Suleiman, director general of the Department of Protocol in Dubai. - TradeArabia News Service
