Dewa approves electrical, solar PV contractors

DUBAI, February 23, 2016

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) said it has approved more than 140 contractors and consultants for installation work at its solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in the emirate.

The company announced this at the end of a training course for PV specialist contractors and consultants.

The move is part of Dewa’s efforts to ensure PV systems are designed and installed as per the highest international quality standards, said a statement from the company.

During the training session, the participants learned about the technical requirements, safety standards, and Dewa’s guidelines for installing PV panels on rooftops to generate electricity and connect them to the utility's grid under the Shams Dubai initiative, it stated.

To date, a total of 143 engineers have been certified as enrolled electrical and solar PV consultants and contractors, said the utility firm.

Dewa’s training course includes academic and practical training, covering all technical aspects of installing PV panels, as well as safety procedures.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the managing director and chief executive, said Dewa was committed to the highest quality and safety standards across its internal operations and external activities.

"We are encouraging building owners to take advantage of the Shams Dubai initiative and locally generate clean energy which helps to reduce their electricity bills, increase their property value, protect the environment, support Dubai's economy, and guarantee a sustainable future for the emirate," noted Al Tayer.

"This supports our mission, which states that we are committed to the happiness of our stakeholders and promoting Dubai’s vision through the delivery of sustainable electricity and water services at a world-class level of reliability, efficiency, and safety, in an environment that nurtures innovation with a competent workforce and effective partnerships; supporting resources sustainability," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
