Doosan wins Abu Dhabi plant maintenance deal

ABU DHABI, December 29, 2015

Energy engineering specialist Doosan Babcock said it has signed a landmark agreement with
Taweelah Asia Power Company (Tapco) to provide essential maintenance and technical support services for its desalination plant in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

The company is part of a powerful combination of companies united under the Korean conglomerate Doosan Group, to deliver complementary technologies, skills and value to customers the world over.

The eight-year long term maintenance agreement (LTMA) contract includes technical support, parts and equipment provision, and repair and maintenance services at Abu Dhabi’s Taweelah B Power and Water Desalination Plant, the second largest facility of its kind in the UAE, said a statement from the company.

Doosan Babcock said it beat off stiff competition to secure this groundbreaking contract, offering a unique ‘one-stop shop’ solution that combines OEM engineering, integrity management and mechanical maintenance expertise.

In total, the agreement will ensure the optimum performance of six thermal boiler units, five heat recovery steam generators (HRSG), 13 multi-stage flashing (MSF) water desalination units and 12 potable water tanks, it stated.

On the contract win, Steve Hunt, VP Global Service, said: "We are delighted to be working with Tapco in this pioneering service agreement, which is the first of its kind in the Middle East. Combining our integrity management, maintenance and OEM capabilities, we are ideally placed to help Taweelah B continue to provide a secure source of water and power for the residents of Abu Dhabi."

The scope of works will be led by Doosan Babcock, while the technical expertise will be provided by other members of the Korean group, including Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction’s Water Business Group and HRSG specialist Doosan Engineering & Construction.

According to Hunt, the contract represents a significant strategic step for Doosan Babcock’s growing business in the UAE, which recently saw the opening of its specialist Middle East and North Africa (Mena) technical hub in Abu Dhabi.-TradeArabia News Service
