Equate wins top honours from Dow

KUWAIT, December 13, 2015

Kuwait based Equate Petrochemical Company recently won international recognition from US-based Dow Chemical Company (Dow).

The company received the ‘Innovation Technology Award’ for executing a project to clean the ethylene unit process equipment in less than three days, said Equate in a statement.

The award-winning project, which was finalised in less than 65 hours, is the first of its kind achievement at plants evaluated by the Dow Tech Centre, it said.

The ethylene unit cleaning achieved savings of over $14 million while adhering to world-class industrial practices, especially in the environment, health and safety (EH&S), it added.

The ethylene unit has a production capacity of over 900,000 m tonnes annually and it is one of two units operated by Equate, said the company in a statement.

The ethylene unit cleaning was based on a Six Sigma methodology, which is a set of techniques and tools for process improvement to deliver the best possible results while minimising cost, time and effort.

Mohammad Husain, president and CEO, Equate, said: “This innovation-based project supports sustainability within the industrial sector to ensure overall progress. This recognition is a source of encouragement for us to continue our journey towards excellence as ‘Partners in Success’.”

“As the first Kuwaiti organisation to adopt Six Sigma methodology and HRO principles, our human capital has proven their innovative capabilities, dedication and global achievements. Since launching our own Six Sigma programme, we have certified over 180 project leaders who have executed more than 300 projects with savings exceeding $300 million,” he added. – TradeArabia News Service
