UAE petchem industry set for strong growth in 2016

DUBAI, November 26, 2015

The UAE petrochemicals industry will see strong output growth in 2016 as it continues its massive capacity expansion, according to the UAE Petrochemicals Report Q1 2016, published by Business Monitor International (BMI) Research.

The report also added that by 2016 ethylene capacity of in the UAE will reach 5 million tonnes per annum, up from 2 million tonnes per annum in 2013, with Polyethylene (PE) more than tripling to 3.52 million tonnes per annum and polypropylene (PP) rising by nearly 170 per cent to 2.14 million tonnes per annum over the period.

In order to showcase and highlight the growing advancements in the industry, Dubai will host the 13th edition of ArabPlast, a leading plastics and petrochemical show globally, from January 8 to 10, 2017, at the Dubai International Exhibition and Convention Centre.

The bi-annual event will provide updates on petrochemical industry, and will witness the largest participation in its history, with expectations of display of high-end machinery from Asia and Europe, said a statement.

Past editions of the show saw display of over 150 containers of machineries, making ArabPlast the largest machinery trade exhibition in the Middle East. The upcoming edition is set to witness even further expansion, with the region still dominating the petrochemical industry on the global platform, it said.

Satish Khanna, general manager, Al Fajer Information and Services, co-organisers of the show, said: “ArabPlast 2017 has attracted a wide array of petrochemical and plastics companies. Leading companies of plastics and rubber industry participate in the show to unveil ground-breaking product solutions, cutting-edge technologies, and revolutionary ideas. Also, we anticipate a series of international alliances at the show in its upcoming edition.”

Around 56 per cent of previous ArabPlast visitors were from GCC region, while 12 per cent were from Indian Sub-continent, 8 per cent from Europe, 6 per cent from African Countries, 5 per cent from rest of Asian and 13 per cent from other countries. The exhibition saw visitors from around 119 countries worldwide, said the statement.

On display at Arabplast 2017 will be new products and technologies in injection moulding, blow moulding, wrapping and packaging, pre and post plastic processing techniques as well as raw materials, such as additives and polymers. The show covers a wide spectrum of plastic machinery, plastic/rubber processing technology, pre and post-processing systems, plastic packaging technology, injection moulding, blow moulding, wrapping technology, extrusions, chemicals and additives, semi-finished goods, engineering plastics and plastic products.

Jointly organised by Al Fajer Information and Services, and Germany’s Messe Dusseldorf, ArabPlast has served over the years as the best platform to unveil new products, witness updates of the industry, open communication channels with industry peers, and meet global decision makers in the plastics industry.
