Spain's Abengoa wins $26m Kuwait power deal

KUWAIT, September 21, 2014

Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity and Water has awarded a €20.5-million ($26.2 million) contract to Spain’s Abengoa for the development of a new power transmission project in the country.

As per the deal, Abengoa will construct three new power transmission lines within 20 months. The project is in line with Kuwait’s plan to expand its energy infrastructure.

The scope of work includes design, supply, construction, testing and commissioning of three high and very high voltage power transmission lines with a combined length of 86 km, said the company in a statement.

The first line has a capacity of 300 kV and is divided into four smaller lines of 5 km each. The second line is 58-km long and has a capacity of 132 kV, while the third line is an eight-km long and of 33 kV capacity, it added.

The Spanish group is already working on another project in the country – a 37.5-km transmission line for the Kuwait Institute of Scientific Research (KISR).

Abengoa is a leading provider of innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the energy and environment sectors, generating electricity from renewable resources, converting biomass into biofuels and producing drinking water from sea water.-TradeArabia News Service
