Dhahran, July 19, 2007

Saudi Aramco said on Thursday that it had controlled a fire at the Ras Tanura oil terminal, the world's largest offshore oil export facility.

Crude and oil product output and loading were unaffected by the fire at the terminal on the kingdom's Gulf coast, Aramco said in a statement on its website.

Saudi Arabia is the world's largest oil exporter. Ras Tanura has capacity to load between 5.5 million and 6 million barrels per day of oil.

The fire started at around 9.30 am (0630 GMT) and was brought under control by 10.30 am, Aramco said. The area was undergoing maintenance at the time.

Several injuries were reported, but Aramco gave no further details.
