Volvo S90 launched in Bahrain

MANAMA, November 13, 2016

Motorcity, the sole distributor of Volvo Cars in Bahrain, today launched the new Volvo S90 at an event at Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea and Spa.

The event was hosted by Motorcity chairman Waleed Kanoo and senior general manager Dr Bijan Majidi, and attended by a select group of invitees, including corporate clients and the diplomatic corps.

Equipped with a host of new technologies ranging from cutting edge safety to cloud-based apps and services, the S90 is a continuation of Volvo’s evolution, said a statement.

Connectivity
All new Volvos are now connected, thanks to Volvo’s connectivity offering, Sensus. It delivers an intuitive touch screen interface that combines car functions, navigation, connected services and in-car entertainment applications such as Spotify, Pandora, Baidu or TuneIn. The portrait-oriented touch screen enables easy and fast access to a host of functions and features.

Powertrain technology
The S90 is powered by Volvo’s Drive-E powertrains, including petrol models offered in Bahrain mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The S90 T6, like the XC90, will utilize a turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-litre engine, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission with the inclusion of all-wheel drive and producing 320 horse power and 400Nm torque.

Semi-autonomous drive
Volvo’s leadership in the field of automotive safety is confirmed in the all-new S90. Volvo’s City Safety Technology, standard on all Volvo models, combines automatic breaking functionality and collision avoidance systems to cover a range of potential accident scenarios and help keep drivers safe. City Safety’s functionality is further extended in the S90 with Large Animal Detection, designed to help avoid or mitigate collisions with large animals. An auto-steer functionality which helps to keep you on the road, called Run-off Road Mitigation, has also been added.

Volvo’s overall safety offering, called IntelliSafe, encompasses both active and passive safety systems and forms the groundwork for Volvo’s leadership in the field of autonomous driving. The S90 already offers semi-autonomous drive with Pilot Assist, which works up to 130 km/h on clearly marked roads, it said. – TradeArabia News Service
