Egypt dealer backs Volvo’s ‘connected car’

CAIRO, June 24, 2015

Ezz Elarab Automotive Group, the exclusive agent for Volvo Car Group in Egypt, is supporting innovation in the Egyptian market through the automaker’s pioneering Connected Car Programme.

The connected car, equipped with internet and software to allow people to accomplish a multitude of services, is quickly becoming the next trend to dramatically change the automotive market, a statement said.

Within five years, 75 per cent of cars shipped globally will be built with the necessary hardware for Internet connectivity, with Volvo Cars poised to become an industry leader, it added.

Volvo Cars’ 2015 line-up is available at Ezz Elarab’s main showroom and network of authorized dealers across Egypt.

Bassem Ashmawy, managing director of Ezz Elarab Automotive Group of Companies said: “Since its invention of the seatbelt to its Connected Car Programme, Volvo Cars has always been on the forefront of innovation benefiting future generations.”

“Volvo Cars’ Connected Car Programme is another step forward on that journey made possible by the evolution towards a connected society.  This has benefits not only with just vehicles but for cities as a whole.  We look forward to continue to bring Volvo Cars’ innovative automotive solutions to the Egyptian market,” he added.

Volvo Cars is currently investigating a wide range of connected car services that could be provided thanks to available in-car data and the Volvo Cloud. In the future it will be possible to connect ground breaking cloud-based technology with traffic management systems across Egyptian cities in order to enable sharing and maximize valuable insights gained from real-time data.

Intelligent Cities’ solutions could for instance improve traffic flow management by optimizing traffic lights, speed limits and offering re-routing suggestions based on real-time traffic jam alerts. Real time warnings of dangerous weather and accidents could also be provided. Intelligent Cities will soon be able to use connected street lights to illuminate blocked roads in another colour when detected by a connected car to alert other road users of dangerous road conditions.

If a Volvo car detects that a certain stretch of road is blocked, for instance, it can make other connected cars in Egypt aware of this via the Volvo Cloud. Connected car services deliver benefits by reducing the potential for accidents and lowering the cost of road maintenance by making road maintenance more efficient.

Road Status technology has been researched and developed over several years at Volvo Cars.  Currently being piloted, Volvo Cars is working on implementing the technology and making connected systems a soon to be reality in all its vehicles.

Volvo Cars has enhanced driving performance and comfort across all its 2015 line-up, the statement said.

The results include greater control, pin-sharp road handling and a broad choice of chassis settings. From the dynamic S60, the stately S80, its sporty compact V40 and popular XC60, each model delivers true driving excellence, designed around a driver’s personal requirements. – TradeArabia News Service
