Special steps to ensure traffic safety in Bahrain

MANAMA, April 17, 2015

Special measures have been put in place to ensure traffic safety for the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix.

General Directorate of Traffic director-general Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa said a comprehensive plan had been drawn up, reported the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

This includes establishing a special office near the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) to handle any accidents near the venue.

The office is located on parking lot 10 of the BIC.

“Another team has been assigned to King Fahad Causeway to facilitate the entry of vehicles and trucks arriving for the event,” said Shaikh Rashid.

He pointed out that traffic preparations covered roads (leading to the BIC) from Awali Roundabout to Sakhir Junction and Sukhair Palace Roundabout to Zallaq flyover.

“The plan also includes roads from the main signal near the University of Bahrain to Al Zallaq Road and its junction with Bahrain Bay Road leading to the west gate of the university,” Shaikh Rashid explained.

He said that the department has come up with an organised traffic plan to facilitate the movement of huge number of vehicles in the shortest period without traffic jams.

“Once the race ends, leaving vehicles will be directed to all lanes including the opposite lanes of Awali Roundabout and Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway towards Manama.”

Teams of traffic police will be on duty to ensure the smooth flow of traffic to and from the event and motorists are being urged to arrive early, carrying both their tickets and parking pass, to avoid delays. - TradeArabia News Service
