Real kart racing experience

The Kartdrome at Dubai Autodrome will offer real kart racing experience to all race fans at reduced rates this summer.

Groups of 10 to 30 people - first timers and veterans - can book a Group Sprint Race session to test their racing skills against one another in a controlled, safe and competitive environment, said a Kartdrome official.

'At Dh290 per person, the Kartdrome will provide each individual with powerful Sodikarts with 4-stroke engines that can reach speeds of up to 90 kilometre/hour.'

Drivers are obliged to wear overalls, helmets and gloves provided by the Kartdrome.

'Closed shoes must be worn, preferably trainers or similar shoes. Drivers are not allowed to wear sandals. No racing experience is required and the event is ideal for those wanting to try their skill at racing for the first time and those that have the knack and now want to race,' the official said.

Each session lasts an hour and forty minutes encompassing the experiences of a true professional racing event.

Upon signing in, the drivers will be given a short briefing on the rules and regulations of the track and racing.

A qualifying session will follow involving five flying laps to determine the starting grid. This is followed by a semi-final where they will have ten laps to prove their skills and improve their positions for the final grid.

The final is a twelve lap session of intense racing where speed, skill, consistency will be reuired to make it onto the podium. May the best driver win!

Throughout the event detailed times are taken and printouts are distributed at the end of the race as a record of the experience and achievement.

Safety marshals and a recovery team are on duty throughout the event ensuring emergencies, if any, are dealt with swiftly, he added.

'Each session is separated by ten minute breaks to allow drivers to cool-off, swop stories and recharge. An unlimited drinks cooler and cold towels can be bought for additional fee of Dh20.'

The Kartdrome facility provides the use of cold showers though towels should be brought in by the individuals, the official said.

During the week, groups can book a cool evening session from 5.30 to 7pm or a night time session from 10.30pm to midnight. On weekends, sessions are at 3.30pm until 5pm and at 10.30pm to midnight.

Payments can be made in cash or a single credit card transaction and confirmation of booking will be done by email.
