Bahrain's Mahonia hosts top Michelin star chef

MANAMA, April 3, 2019

One of the world's most celebrated French chefs is set to fly from the Côte d'Azur to Bahrain with a star-studded team for a ‘kitchen takeover’ at Bahrain’s peak dégustation restaurant, Mahonia.

For two nights only, on April 15 and 16, two Michelin star Chef Bruno Oger will be serving up an eight-course gastronomic experience of Mediterranean haute cuisine composed of the finest internationally-sourced ingredients, the restaurant announced.

Executive chef Oger is best known on the high-end culinary scene as the genius behind the official dinners of the Cannes Film Festival, and as the proprietor of Bastide Bruno Oger which comprises the famed gourmet restaurant La Villa Archange, the brasserie Le Bistrot des Anges.  He was awarded the Chevalier des Arts et Lettres medal by the French Government in 2003 and won Best French Chef of The Year in 2010.

Pastry Chef Sylvain Mathy, the renowned 2002 dessert champion of France, will also be visiting to put his unique spin on the sweet offerings. Rounding out the team will be Chef Oger's right-hand-man Jacques di Guisto, F&B Director Eric Descazaux and other trusted members of his team from the French Riviera.

Mahonia has distinguished itself as a world-class destination for chefs as well as epicures since its launch. Already noted for its ongoing Four Hands Dinner Series - wherein chefs from the World's Best Top 50 Restaurants List collaborate with resident Executive Chef Herve Pronzato - this new kitchen takeover concept demonstrates Mahonia's commitment to introducing truly unique and one-off experiences for guests, it said.

Founder Sawsan Baluch commented: “At a time when the Arabian Gulf is being looked to as the global epicentre of innovative luxury lifestyle ideas, we strive to put Bahrain on the epicurean world map.”

The special menu for the two nights features an eight-stage progression of dishes such as Cape Breton Lobster (arguably the best lobster in the world), Prawn Ceviche with Caviar, and Lamb with Provençal condiment. The dessert portion includes an oversized madeleine designed to be shared, driving home the French influences that will imbue the entire extravaganza”.

Chef Bruno Oger commented: "This is an exciting event for all involved. The team and I look forward to taking over the kitchens of Mahonia to produce an authentic, curated and bespoke taste of France in the heart of Arabia. Meanwhile, we welcome the opportunity to be inspired by the island kingdom as well as the team and venue of Mahonia."

Seating at this boutique destination is extremely limited and early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment, said the restaurant. More information is available at www.mahoniabh.com or by calling +973 1700 0071 – TradeArabia News Service
