Qatar move on holy places act of aggression: Saudi

MANAMA, July 31, 2017

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir has termed Qatar's request to internationalise the holy places as an aggression and it amounted to declaring a war against Saudi Arabia, a Saudi Press Agency report said.

"We have the right to respond to any party working in the field of internationalisation of the holy places," he said during a joint press conference of the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, and Egypt after their meeting in Manama.

He said: "The history of the kingdom is clear in facilitating the arrival of pilgrims."

On Qatar's claim of banning its citizens from Haj this year, the foreign minister affirmed that the history of the kingdom is clear with regard to facilitating the arrival of any visitor to the House of Allah, whether for Umrah or Haj.

"The kingdom is making great efforts in this regard and does not accept politicisation of Haj because they are sacred rituals and duties on every Muslim," he said.

He pointed out that the kingdom encourages the arrival of every Muslim from anywhere in the world to visit the House of God, and we reject what Qatar is trying to do to politicise this matter and consider that it does not respect Haj or pilgrims.

He stressed that brothers from Qatar are welcome to perform Haj just like any person from any place in the world.
