Iran unveils new attack drone

Iran has unveiled a new attack drone similar to a US unmanned aerial vehicle captured five years ago and is capable of carrying bombs, a report said.

The drone, called the Saegheh, or Thunderbolt, was unveiled at an expo showcasing the latest achievements Iran's Revolutionary Guard (IRGC), according to state news agency Irna.

Media reported that Saegheh is a long-range drone capable of carrying four smart and precision-guided bombs. It can strike targets with high precision. It is one of the Simorgh family drones, which is the Iranian version of the US RQ-170 Sentinel stealth aircraft.

"This long-range drone is capable of hitting four targets with smart precision-guided bombs with high accuracy," the head of the Revolutionary Guards' aerospace arm, Amir Ali Hajizadeh, was quoted as saying by in a Reuters report, which cited Irna.
