200 candidates approved for Sharjah election

SHARJAH, January 3, 2016

The Supreme Committee of Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) Elections has unveiled its preliminary list of candidates, approving 200 nominations.

The approved nominations include 157 men (78.5 per cent) and 43 women (21.5 per cent) from nine different constituencies.

The committee lauded everyone who answered the call of HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and submitted a nomination request for the SCC polls.

According to Dr Khalid Al Midfa, head of the media committee for SCC elections, the committee held meetings on Wednesday and Thursday (December 30 & 31) to examine the nomination requests referred to it by the committees of the nine constituencies in Sharjah.

Al Midfa said the supreme committee inspected each request separately to verify its conformity with all the conditions set by the law on the establishment of the SCC and the decree on the regulation of SCC polls.

He said the committee excluded 79 requests from the nine constituencies for several reasons.  - TradeArabia News Service
