Egypt cheese firm to set up two factories

CAIRO, January 28, 2015

Egypt-based Obourland Cheese Company plans to set up two new manufacturing units – a cheese factory and a new factory for juice and milk production – at a cost of E£100 million ($13.4 million), a report said.

The cheese factory, which will feature three production lines with investments worth E£50 million ($6.7 million), will start operations in the first quarter of 2015, according to the Daily News Egypt report, which cited a press release.

The new factory for juice and milk production is likely to start operations in the second half of 2016 and will provide 500 direct jobs, the report said.

The announcement was made during a joint press conference between Tetra Pak Egypt, a leading food processing and packaging solutions company and Obourland.

Egypt is the biggest global white cheese market, Anders Lindgren, managing director, Tetra Pak Egypt, was quoted as saying during the press conference.

Lindgren added that around 31.3 per cent of Tetra Pak Egypt’s production is in cheese production, which increased by 7.8 per cent in 2014 compared to 2013, with more than 834 million packages.
