In a statement following the session, Cabinet secretary-general Dr Yasser Al Nasser recalled the landmark achievements made by Bahrain during His Majesty's era.

The statement called on citizens to draw lessons from national occasions and to preserve the kingdom's unity to ensure a brighter future for the country.

It lauded the principles in His Majesty's keynote speech during the opening of the first session of the current legislative term, noting its inclusion of several relevant issues and affirmed the need to continue development and reforms to optimise national gains.

The Premier affirmed that the government has been inspired by His Majesty's directives in preparing its work plan.

A discussion was held on the government's work plan for 2015-2018, which will be presented to parliament and the ministries concerned to study it and submit their visions to the Follow-up Affairs Minister.

The Energy Minister's recommendations on the plan were outlined and the Cabinet referred the issue to the concerned committee.

The Cabinet welcomed the results of the 35th Summit of the GCC Supreme Council, hosted recently by Qatar, and its resolutions aiming to boost joint GCC action.

It praised the summit communique in which GCC countries lauded the success of Bahrain's recent parliamentary and municipal elections, backed its measures to combat terrorist acts and condemned the terror blasts that claimed the lives of innocent people.

On Bahrain Police Day, the Cabinet praised the crucial role played by policemen in assuming their patriotic duties of protecting lives and property and reinforcing security and stability.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved a plan to open a branch of the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and requested the necessary procedures.
