Bahrain urges global partnership for peace

Bahrain's Premier is urging an international partnership to strengthen security, stability and quality of life.

In a statement marking UN Day, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa stressed the importance of building such an effective link to strengthen gains made by the Millennium Development Goals, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

“We should build upon such partnership in the formulation of the Millennium Development Goals in the period after 2015, leading to a world where everyone enjoys security, stability and quality of life,” he said.

The Premier stressed that supporting UN efforts and its specialised organisations in the achievement of its noble humanitarian mission is a collective responsibility to promote peace, security and development at the global level. Bahrain will continue its partnership with the UN in formulating development goals in the next phase in an efficient manner.

“The principles of the UN Charter are a strong and solid basis for any collective effort aimed at human prosperity and welfare,” he said.

He called for further dialogue among nations and peoples to reach common denominators that could protect the world from repercussions of conflicts and terrorism.

The Premier also asserted that the world, which is facing challenges threatening its security and stability, needs a new vision and a systematic action to consolidate peace and development values and preserve the principles of international respect and non-interference in the internal affairs of states.

He commended the growing role of the UN as an international platform to develop a national action plan aimed at promoting understanding, co-existence, peace and security.

He praised the achievements of the kingdom under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad.

He pointed out that Bahrain was one of a few countries that have implemented the Millennium Development Goals. - TradeArabia News Service
