Bahrain’s His Majesty King Hamad and Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday (April 28) discussed ways of expanding economic, trade, tourism and cultural co-operation and boosting joint investments.

HRH Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa attended the session at Sakhir Palace, reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

The two sides Regional and international developments and issues of mutual interest were also on the agenda.

The King hailed steadily-growing relations, reiterating Bahrain's keenness to boost co-operation in all fields.

He stressed the importance of the visit, saying that it would strengthen ties, boost trade exchanges and pave the way for the private sector to embark on joint investment ventures.

The King pointed out Bahrain's efforts to create a business-friendly investment environment and provide attractive incentives and facilities for foreign investors.

He commended the Sri Lankan expatriate community for their role in Bahrain's development and progress.

President Rajapaksa thanked the King for the warm welcome and hospitality, praising the leadership's interest in bolstering ties with his country.

He also commended Bahrain's landmark development and achievements in all sectors, lauding the King's pivotal role.

Three memoranda of understanding were signed in the presence of the leaders.

The first one related to cooperation between the General Organisation for Youth and Sport and the Sri Lankan Sports Ministry, and was signed by Supreme Council for Youth and Sport chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Sri Lankan External Affairs Minister G L Peiris.

The second MoU on co-operation in cultural and artistic fields was signed by Education Minister Dr Majid Al Nuaimi and Mr Peiris.

They also signed an agreement on behalf of the University of Bahrain and the Colombo University in Sri Lanka. – TradeArabia News Service
