Bahrain Premier pledges to continue reforms

Manama, April 15, 2014

Bahrain's Premier has pledged to continue Bahrain's reforms programme as the nation was praised as a beacon of change in the region by Britain.

"However, some sides are, unfortunately, unhappy with what we have achieved regarding development and reform," said His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.

He, however, stressed Bahrain's determination to go ahead with its efforts to bring more prosperity to its people, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

This came as the Premier received, at Gudaibiya Palace, a delegation of British MPs and Lords, led by Lord Gulam Noon.

Present were parliament chairman Dr Khalifa Al Dhahrani and first deputy chairman Abdulla bin Khalaf Al Dossary.

He stressed the importance of consolidating understanding among people globally in order to remove obstacles that may impede efforts to promote worldwide stability.

"The world is going through a critical phase in which chaos prevails, which requires an international effort to foster peace on the basis of the principles of international law and respect for human rights," he said.

After the meeting, Lord Clive Soley said, "We've just had a very useful meeting with HRH the Prime Minister. We've also discussed the importance of Bahrain continuing to be a beacon of change in the region and we're impressed by what is being achieved. We know that you've been through a difficult period, but we also know that the changes are coming about; and one of the things we discussed is the way the UK and Bahrain can stay in touch and keep the links we've had for 200 years now.

"We're very impressed with the Premier. He seems to have a very good grasp of affairs. He's got a lot of experience and I think we need to listen to what he has to say; and we intend to do so." - TradeArabia News Service
