IDs enough for Saudi women in court

Riyadh, February 12, 2014

There is no need for Saudi women to be identified by males at court hearings any more and they require their identity cards only, said a report.

The decision was made by Supreme Judicial Council and a circular has been issued to all the courts, Arab News said.

The new move will bring to an end to the dilemma that both women and judges used to face when trying to identify women who appear in court, said Ali Al-Alyani, a columnist and editor in chief of Ya Hala talk show in the report.

“The previous practice gave men the upper hand in cases where they would either refuse to identify the woman or give false information in some cases,” he said.
