New fund plan to promote culture in Bahrain

A new fund to support cultural and national heritage could be launched in Bahrain.

The Cabinet yesterday initially approved the proposal, which aims to establish a national fund in partnership with the public and private sector, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

It hopes to provide funding for the development of arts and literature, preserving Bahrain's identity as well as highlighting the importance of the role of culture in bringing community members together through their participation in cultural activities.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet also backed a memorandum of understanding presented by Transportation Minister Kamal Ahmed, who is Economic Development Board (EDB) acting chief executive, on the draft law on investment partnerships.

Investment

The bill, prepared in co-operation between the EDB and Central Bank of Bahrain, aims to modernise financial services legislation to enhance competitiveness. The Cabinet referred both bills to the concerned ministerial committees.

Several parliamentary proposals were yesterday approved by the Cabinet and will be implemented with immediate effect.

They include constructing a walkway, rest areas, and public facilities on the east coast of Hidd and conducting a study on the increasing number of privately owned vehicles in Bahrain. Constructing housing projects in Busaiteen and Qalali were also accepted. - TradeArabia News Service
