Bahrain renames culture ministry

His Majesty King Hamad issued a decree renaming the Bahrain Culture and Information Ministry as the Culture Ministry. Under the new decree, the minister of Culture and Information has also been renamed Minister of Culture.

The amendment also applies to the under-secretary, renamed Culture Ministry under-secretary.

Under the same decree, an Information Affairs Authority will be established and its president will be appointed by decree. The authority will be in charge of all information affairs as stipulated in the laws, edicts, rules and regulations.

His Majesty issued a second decree reorganising the Culture Ministry. Under the new decree, the minister will have the under-secretary under his authority.

The human and financial resources directorate, the assistant under-secretary for culture and national heritage and the assistant under-secretary for tourism will be subordinated to the under-secretary.

His Majesty issued a third decree organising the Information Affairs Authority. It will be headed by a president in charge of the Human and Financial Resources Directorate in addition to the Bahrain News Agency (BNA).

A director-general for Press and external information will be named. He will have under his authority the directorate of external information as well as the directorate of Press affairs.

The Information Affairs Authority will also feature a director-general for radio and TV affairs. He will have under his authority the directorates of radio, television, news and artistic affairs. A director-general for publications and publishing will also be named.

He will have under his authority the directorate of publications and publishing as well as the directorate of the governmental Press.

His Majesty issued a fourth decree appointing Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa president of the Information Affairs Authority with the rank of a minister.
 
King Hamad also issues a new decree amending law 5 for 1983 under which a Supreme Council for Youth and Sport will be established and affiliated to the Cabinet.

The General Organisation for Youth and Sport (Goys) will be under the authority of the Supreme Council and will be in charge of the youth sector, youth centres, national clubs and related facilities and projects.

The Bahrain Olympic Committee, another offshoot of the council, will be responsible for the national sport associations. The Supreme Council will consist of a president, two vice-presidents and at least eight members appointed by a Royal decree for four-year renewable terms.-TradeArabia News Service
