Sharjah sets up four new district councils

SHARJAH, February 13, 2018

HH Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has issued four Emiri Decrees creating the Sharjah districts councils of Mughaidir, Muwaileh, Al Zabbara and Wasit with seven board members.

These councils will elect a chairman and vice-chairman from among its members at its first meeting by consensus or by direct secret ballot, said the state news agency Wam citing the royal decree.

The term of office for each council shall be determined by the executive regulations of the Department of Districts and Villages Affairs, it stated.

The term of memberships will be four years starting from the date of its first meeting. The councils' boards have been directed to fulfil their roles up until the end of their terms, or until a new board has been appointed, with the possibility of renewal of the board's term, it added.
