UAE postpones 'The Founder’s Memorial' launch

ABU DHABI, January 22, 2018

The UAE government has postponed the opening of 'The Founder’s Memorial' - which commemorates the country's founding father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s life, legacy, and values - until further notice.

The Founder's Memorial on the Abu Dhabi Corniche, a permanent national tribute to the late Sheikh Zayed, was due to be officially inaugurated today (January 22) evening.

No reason was given for postponement in the brief update given on the Founder's Memorial Instagram page.

Located at the intersection of first and second street along The Corniche in Abu Dhabi, the 3.3 hectares of new public space aims to instill pride and purpose in the UAE community as a place for reflection and celebration of the nation’s history and heritage, honouring Sheikh Zayed’s timeless legacy as a guiding star for the UAE people, and passing his values onto future generations of Emiratis.

The opening of the Memorial, which features a monumental artwork, was to coincide with the beginning of the Year of Zayed - a national year of commemoration declared by UAE President Sheikh Khalifa to mark 100 years since the birth of the country's founder,. it stated.

The Founder's Memorial was set to open to the public in Spring this year offering them a range of personal encounters with the late Sheikh Zayed as a man and a leader, enabling people to gain a deeper understanding of his life, legacy and values, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
