RIYADH, June 24, 2017

Bahrain has declared Sunday (June 25) as the first day of Eid Al Fitr after official announcements were made in Saudi Arabia of sightings of the new Shawwal crescent. UAE has also announced that Eid will begin tomorrow.

The members extended their congratulations and best wishes to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, praying to Allah the Almighty to protect and bless Bahrain.

It also extended its best wishes to the people of Bahrain and the entire Arab and Islamic world.

There have been reported sighting of the crescent moon in Malaysia and Indonesia, which would mean both countries will be celebrating Eid on Sunday, reported Arab News.

Astronomer Khalid Al Zaaq, a member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences confirmed in his Twitter account that “Eid begins Sunday astronomically,” said the report.

He added that “the astronomical calculations based on followed criteria suggest that Sunday is first day of Eid Al-Fitr,” he added

Bahrain’s moon-sighting panel too held a meeting this evening (June 24) at the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (SCIA) headquarters to receive testimonies confirming the advent of Eid Al-Fitr.
