LG launches region’s first ‘Signage Design’ contest

DUBAI, March 26, 2017

LG Electronics today announced the launch of the first LG Signage Design competition for innovative professional designers and architects across the region to push the boundaries of artistic designs within new and existing commercial spaces.

Participants are expected to submit design proposals using LG’s ultra-flexible open frame OLED and ultra-stretch LCD digital signage solutions across four categories for the opportunity to win cash prize worth $25,000 per category, said a statement.

The LG Signage Design competition is fully supported and endorsed by the Dubai Design and Fashion Council (DDFC), established by the Dubai Government to raise the profile of Dubai as a regional and global destination for design. Leading the development of a sustainable industry, DDFC provides in-depth market intelligence and helps elevate local and regional talent, enabling the contribution of the creative industries to the development of the Emirate, it said.

The four award categories include: OLED Signage Design Award – using the Open Frame OLED to create an inspiring display design for any space; Ultra Stretch Signage Design Award – using the 86-inch and 88-inch Ultra Stretch in artistic ways to create an immersive experience; Dubai Dream Signage Design – using a combination of OLED and Ultra Stretch to create a Dubai-inspired design; and Vertical Vision Signage Design Award – for designers to showcase their imagination and use LG displays to design a vertical space of their choice.

The LG Signage Design competition will commence on April 12 at the LG Signage Design Summit scheduled to be held at the Armani hotel in Dubai, UAE co-inciding with the launch of the company’s latest information display solutions including LG’s Flexible Open Frame OLED and LG’s new 88-inch Ultra Stretch digital display.

“Communication has become an important aspect in every field. With the advancement in technologies, this has changed the way companies are communicating with their customers and one such way which has seen a tremendous growth is the signage industry. By adapting to the changing market and adopting the latest technologies, digital signage offers the possibility to inspire and engage with consumers in a more experiential way”, said Kevin Cha, President, LG Electronics, Middle East and Africa.

“With innovation at the forefront, the aim of the LG Signage Design competition is to showcase the potential of blending visual display hardware and creative design to create highly decorative and engaging structures, added  Cha.

The challenge seeks to extract the ‘techorating’ skills of artistic individuals across the Middle East and highlight their creative concepts that integrate the flexible, pencil-thin design of OLED signage and the extended wide format (58:9 Bar-type) of the Ultra Stretch displays into functional display applications.

"Design and technology are interwoven, with both having a tremendous impact on driving innovation. We are pleased to see leading companies such as LG Electronics develop new platforms to support our creative community, and we are proud to endorse the inaugural LG Signage Design competition. This initiative is closely aligned with DDFC’s mandate of developing a sustainable design industry in Dubai and will provide designers with the opportunity to showcase their originality and try their luck across the different prize categories,” commented Jazia Al Dhanhani, CEO, Dubai Design and Fashion Council.

Competition entries to consist of renderings which include the design concept, a description of the proposed design that also explains how the design evaluation criteria is met, and a description about the participant’s thoughts on how digital displays can redefine interior spaces.

The LG Signage Design Summit will bring together renowned interior designers, architects, consultants and experience creators amongst others to showcase pioneering display technologies LG has to offer that brings together the beauty in design and the complexity of display technology.

“With the unparalleled benefits that signage displays offer, they have become a necessity across all commercial spaces, whether they are shopping malls, retail stores, airports, metro stations, entertainment parks, public spaces or others. Our intention at the LG Signage Design Summit is to introduce the creative minds in architecture and design to the latest technologies to inspire and challenge them to conceptualise new ways in which to transform an inanimate space into a potential landmark for future generations to enjoy,” said Kyuchan Her, B2B director, LG Electronics, Middle East & Africa.

The deadline for the submissions for the first LG Signage Design competition is May 23, followed by winner announcements in July 2017. For more information on the competition, visit www.lgsignagedesign.com - TradeArabia News Service
