$8m wedding for RP Group head’s daughter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, India, November 26, 2015

A 550-million rupee ($8.3 million) wedding will take place on Thursday (November 26) in the Indian state of Kerala for the daughter of Ravi Pillai, head of RP Group, a leader in construction, mining and education in the Gulf, a report said.

The extravaganza, where Pillai's daughter Dr Arathi will wed Dr Adithya Vishnu of the city of Kochi will take place at the Asramam ground in Kollam, reported the Times of India (TOI).

The event, planned by Sabu Cyril, production designer of the Bollywood top-grosser 'Bahubali', will feature dance performances by Malayalam film actresses Manju Warrier and Sobhana, with a musical show conducted by Stephen Devassy, TOI said, citing sources associated with the wedding plans.

About 30,000 guests are expected to assemble inside a 350,000 sq ft pandal modelled along Rajasthan royal palaces, according to the report.

Wedding plans include a 100-million-rupee worth charity initiatives planned in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts.

The guest list includes 42 global leaders including country heads, CEOs, government representatives, politicians, film-stars, technocrats and diplomats.

The wedding set, spread over eight acres, has cost more than 200 million rupees, the report said.

Chartered flights carrying India’s Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Bahrain royal family arrived yesterday, the report said.

Pillai has a strong presence in Gulf with 26 companies having over 80,000 employees. With a net worth of $2.8 billion, Pillai was ranked first among the richest Keralites in a survey conducted by TOI in June.
