Jeddah tourism festival competes on a global level

JEDDAH, July 20, 2015

A Jeddah-based festival is set to compete globally with its entertaining and interesting activities, according to a report.

The ‘Jeddah Festival 36,’ being held under the slogan ‘we made it longer,’ targets families, with activities varying from modernisation, innovation and comprehension to culture, entertainment and social, said the Arab News report.

The 30-day event was launched by Jeddah Governon Prince Mishaal bin Majed on July 18 at Jeddah Center for Forums and Exhibitions, it said.

Jeddah is the first tourist destination in Saudi Arabia with an estimated number of five million tourists a year who visit for entertainment or spend holidays.

A large numbers of Haj and Umrah pilgrims also shop in the city, which is the gateway to Makkah and Madinah, said the report.

“Festivals and celebrations in Jeddah have become an important asset to various economies and became an integral part of the development of strategic plans to improve its image,” Prince Mishaal was quoted as saying.

The festival also offers activities to help people with various investment offers in addition to its role in informing visitors about the history, culture and civilisation of the city, he added.
