Microsoft Egypt hosts mobile photography contest

Cairo, June 29, 2014

Microsoft Devices Egypt has announced the winners of the ‘Only in Egypt Mobile Photography Contest,’ which it hosted in collaboration with Photopia.

The competition, which was the the first competition of its kind in Egypt, called on aspiring, young and amateur photographers to reveal their talents using their mobile phones, said a statement.

The theme of the competition, ‘Only in Egypt,’ implied that the participants’ photographs had to represent an aspect that exists or happens only in Egypt.

The captured images range from a person to a place, an action, a habit, a story or an event.

Photopia’s judging panel included Ahmed Hayman, Roger Anis and Aly Hazzaa, three renowned photographers, who had the challenge of selecting the best shots from over 1,000 photographs that were submitted by some 350 participants. 180 photographs chosen as the finalists were showcased inside Photopia’s gallery space in Heliopolis recently.

The first three winners were awarded Lumia devices from Microsoft Devices; the first prize winner was awarded the Lumia 1520, while the second and third prize winners were awarded the Lumia 1020 with the photographer kit.

A total of six photographers were recognised at the event - the top three winners who kept to the theme, and three honourable mentions, which consisted of photographers who captured exceptional images that could fit within Egyptian culture and other cultures around the world.

The first place winner was Ramy Adel, while the second and third place winners were Mohamed Ezz and Aly Roshdy Aly, respectively. The honourable mentions were awarded to Moaaz Khaled, Eslam Muhammed and Ahmed Othman Ramadan. - TradeArabia News Service
