Dali masterpiece to go on show in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, June 2, 2014

An original masterpiece by 20th century Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dali will make its first public appearance in the Middle East in August when it serves as a dramatic backdrop to the La Verità contemporary circus in Abu Dhabi.

La Verità, which will run for 14 performances at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from August 20 to 30, is a tribute to Dali’s life and the backdrop, which measure 9x15 m was painted by him in New York in 1944, said a statement.

The painting, which Dali created for his ballet Tristan and Isolde, was ‘lost’ in a theatre in the 1940s and only came to light in 2010 when a European art collector contacted famed theatrical producer Daniele Finzi Pasca, the man behind Cirque du Soleil’s ‘Corteo’ and who has since gone on to produce the closing ceremony for Sochi’s winter Olympics, it said.

Pasca was offered the painting for a production around the Dali story, said the statement. He formed the company Finzi Pasca a year later and La Verità came into being.

With 13 acrobats and dancers from eight nations delivering a 90-minute contemporary circus performance, La Verità is the closing act of the blockbuster Abu Dhabi Summer Season show line-up, it added. - TradeArabia News Service
