Bahrain's heritage on show at festival

Manama, April 3, 2014

Bahrain's glorious heritage is being showcased at a major festival.

It was opened yesterday by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty King Hamad and Supreme Council for Women president, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

The Bahrain Heritage Festival is organised by the Culture Ministry under the theme "Weaving and Colours". It will run until Wednesday (April 9) at Bahrain National Museum.

HRH Princess Sabeeka, who opened the festival on behalf of His Majesty, stressed the importance of organising such festivals, describing them as a treasure that keeps Bahrain's culture and traditions alive.

His Majesty's patronage of the annual event reflects his personal interest in preserving cultural heritage, she said.

She emphasised the role of heritage festivals in boosting tourism and supporting the national economy.

Princess Sabeeka paid tribute to Culture Minister Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa for her efforts in promoting Bahrain's status as a tourist attraction, by projecting its historical, cultural and heritage depth.

The 22nd edition of the festival showcases garments and hand-made and woven textiles of traditional designs. A photo gallery will spotlight the industry of cloth-making and traditional dresses in Bahrain. - TradeArabia News Service
