Dubai eyes new record with grand fireworks display

Dubai, December 31, 2013

Dubai’s skies will come alive tonight (December 31) with a six-minute fireworks display choreographed across the whole of The Palm Jumeirah and the islands of The World as the emirate bids for another world record.

The 'light and sound show' will cover 99.4 km of seafront and feature 450,000 fireworks in 400 locations, according to IMG Artists, the global leader in the performing arts and lifestyle events management owned by principals Barrett Wissman and Alex Shustorovich, which will oversee the ambitious plan to break the official Guinness World Record for the world's largest firework display.

The fireworks will illuminate and spotlight iconic Dubai landmarks, including Islands of The World, The Palm Jumeirah and Atlantis the Palm. IMG Artists has appointed long-term collaborators Fireworks by Grucci to design and produce the display, while an original composition from Dubai-based composer Matt Faddy will provide a synchronized soundtrack.

"The planned display will take place on New Year's Eve and will feature over 400,000 individual fireworks from 400 locations in an attempt to break the current record of 77,000 fireworks set by Kuwait in 2012," remarked Jerry Inzerillo, the president and CEO of IMG Artists.

"IMG Artists is honored to work with the Government of Dubai on this memorable event while further enhancing our reputation for creating some of the world's leading cultural and entertainment events.  Together with IMG managing director for Events and Festivals, Simon Tapping, I was personally involved in the launch event for the Palm Jumeirah in 2008, and we are now honored to be invited to surpass that singular event," said Inzerillo.

"The year 2013 has been an extraordinary one for Dubai, and on behalf of the entire IMG Artists team, we are proud to help them celebrate in style," he added.

Barrett Wissman said, "On behalf of IMG Artists, I want to recognize Phil Grucci, who has served as a valued and integral partner on the project. We are confident that he has the vision and the capability to work with us to deliver on this audacious plan."

The six-minute show, which has taken several months of detailed planning, will involve 170 skilled pyro technicians and over 60 computer control systems used to fire with split-second accuracy. Television production company Sparkly Light will capture the magic with multiple aerial camera positions.

The full display will be screened live as part of Dubai TV's New Year's Eve coverage, while Faddy's original soundtrack is broadcast on radio. The television coverage will be made available to broadcasters worldwide, said Inzerillo.

IMG Artists is the global leader of performing arts management. For thirty years, the company has set the standard for excellence across the artist management, touring, events, festivals and cultural consulting fields, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
