Tamkeen set for big SMEs event

Manama, January 6, 2013

The first Tamkeen Conference and Exhibition, which opens tomorrow in Bahrain, is expected to attract more than 80 entrepreneurs from various economic sectors in the Kingdom.

The expo will be held under the patronage of Tamkeen chairman Shaikh Mohammed bin Essa Al Khalifa at the Gulf Hotel's Gulf Convention Centre.

The two-day event will also feature interactive workshops led by leading experts from Bahrain and abroad, who will share knowledge and expertise on entrepreneurship and the best international practices on various economic issues of interest to business owners, reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

The conference will focus on Tamkeen's achievements and the role of entrepreneurship and the private sector in advancing economic development, while the workshops will discuss the best international practices for key topics that benefit entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises in Bahrain.

The expo is part of Tamkeen's efforts to support private sector enterprises and develop the skills of Bahraini citizens.

It seeks to provide a platform for entrepreneurs in particular and the private sector in general to exchange knowledge and expertise, and for the general public to learn about Tamkeen's various support programmes and how to benefit from them.

Tamkeen is an initiative tasked with developing Bahrain's private sector and positioning it as the key driver of economic development.

Established in August 2006, Tamkeen is one of the cornerstones of Bahrain's national reform initiatives and Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.

Traders and businesswomen have expressed optimism that the pace of economic growth will be accelerated this year.

This, they said, is due to the expected increase in government spending after the finance ministry received the first instalment of the $10 billion GCC Development Fund.

In statements to our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej, they said that Tamkeen's programmes have benefited a large number of economic sectors and helped the national economy withstand the global financial crisis in 2011 and last year.

Investors in the conferences and exhibitions sector said that Bahrain will achieve the vision of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa to promote the kingdom as a regional and global hub for conferences and exhibitions industry, affirming that more events are planned for this year than in 2012.-TradeArabia News Service
