The Phantom of the Opera to debut in Dubai

DUBAI, September 4, 2019

The world’s most popular musical, The Phantom of the Opera, will be staged in Dubai from October 16 to November 6.

The Phantom of the Opera contains some of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most famous and stirring music, with the original cast recording selling over 40 million copies worldwide and winning the title of the best-selling cast recording of all time.

With a total of 130 cast, crew, and orchestra members, one-of-a-kind scenery, stage, and set design, breath-taking special effects portraying the true emotion of the story, and more than 230 costumes by the late international designer late Maria Björnson, The Phantom of the Opera is finally making its debut in the UAE.

Based on the classic novel Le Fantôme de L’Opéra by Gaston Leroux, The Phantom of the Opera tells the tale of a disfigured musical genius, known as the Phantom, who haunts the Paris Opera House. Mesmerised by the talent and beauty of a young soprano, Christine, the Phantom lures her as his protégé and falls fiercely in love with her. Unaware of Christine’s love for Raoul, the Phantom’s obsession sets the scene for a dramatic turn of events where jealousy, madness and passions collide.

The Phantom of the Opera, brought to the UAE for the very first time by Broadway Entertainment Group and Dubai Opera, has revealed that Australian actress, singer and recording artist, Claire Lyon will reprise her 2012 role as female protagonist ‘Christine Daaé’ at the Dubai shows.

Claire has starred in a number of international productions of prestigious Broadway musicals, including, playing the role of Miss Dorothy Brown in Thoroughly Modern Millie, Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance and Claire in Jerry's Girls (The Production Company) and Josephine in H.M.S Pinafore (Melbourne Opera Company).

After featuring as Mabel in The Production Company’s The Pirates of Penzance, Claire earned a Green Room Award (Australia) nomination as well as receiving a Helpmann (Australia) nomination after performing the role of Hope Harcourt for the national tour of Anything Goes in The Production Company’s concert version of Jerry’s Girls.

Broadway Entertainment Group CEO Liz Koops said: “We are so excited to be able to announce that Claire Lyon will return to the role of Christine Daaé in the UAE debut of The Phantom of the Opera.  Claire Lyon is an incredible actress, with a wealth of experience and we know she will wow UAE audiences with her outstanding acting and vocal performance.”

Tickets are now on sale for October 16 – November 6. Performance times: Monday to Thursday at 8:00 pm; Friday and Saturday at 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm. No shows on Sunday. -TradeArabia News Service
