Watchdog panel on senior appointments

Manama, July 31, 2014

A committee is to be set up to regulate senior government appointments in Bahrain, it was declared yesterday.

The panel, set up by an edict issued by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa, will oversee all senior government positions as well as those nominated to such ranks or appointed by a royal decree or edict issued by HRH the Premier, reported the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

The new mechanism will apply to the positions of ministry under-secretaries, assistant under-secretaries and directors as well as those under their authority, it said.

The committee will be chaired by the Civil Service Council vice chairman and include the minister of state for implementation, HRH the Premier’s Court Chief, First Deputy Premier’s Office director-general, head of the Civil Service Bureau and the Public Administration director-general as members.

It will seek the assistance of experts and specialists to hear their opinions without granting them a voice in committee deliberations, GDN reported. – TradeArabia News Service
