Bahrain to boost homeland security

Bahrain is to strengthen security to protect its stability and avert repercussions of regional upheavals.

His Majesty King Hamad yesterday stressed the need to take all possible measures to defend the homeland and protect citizens from terror and fanaticism,  reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

"The scourges of terrorism and extremism have no sect or religion," he said as he received at Sakhir Palace His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier.

Parliament chairman Dr Khalifa Al Dhahrani, Shura Council chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh and the Supreme Judicial Council deputy president also attended.

The King reviewed the events unfolding in Iraq, praying Allah Almighty to stop "the brothers' bloodshed and protect their security and stability".

He exchanged greetings with the Premier, the Crown Prince and other officials marking the advent of Ramadan.

He greeted the people of Bahrain and the Arab and Islamic nations, wishing them security and stability.

His Majesty reiterated his resolve to continue the march of reform and democratisation.

"Bahrain has taken confident steady steps towards development and reform in line with global democratic standards and the bases endorsed by the people in the National Action Charter," he said.

He directed authorities to enhance their performance so as to achieve citizens' aspirations, meet their needs, cement national unity and promote co-existence, which long characterised Bahrainis.

"Bahraini citizens are the cornerstone of development and its ultimate goal," he said, hailing Bahrainis in all walks of life for their dedication to their country.

He commended the executive authority for its efforts to achieve people's aspirations, upgrade services and boost growth in all sectors.

He hailed the legislative authority for passing laws, exercising its control role and consolidating state institutions, rule of the law and democratic life.

He also lauded the efforts of the judiciary to promote the principles of right, justice, rule of the law and respect of the constitution.

He paid tribute to all the branches of government for their co-operation during the legislative term that has just ended.-TradeArabia News Service
