New clamp on terror funding in Bahrain

Manama, June 2, 2014

A plan to crack down on terror funding sources in Bahrain was high on the Cabinet's agenda yesterday (June 1).

Chaired by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the session discussed ways of preventing terrorists from benefiting from financial aid and government-funded services, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

The panel approved a memo submitted by the Interior Minister in this regard and referred it to the legal affairs committee.

In a separate meeting with parliament chairman Dr Khalifa Al Dhahrani, MPs and other officials, the Premier urged villagers to take a strong stand against terrorism and protect their children.

"People living in terror-hit areas should be the first to voice a strong stance against terrorism," he said.

He warned that the scourge of terrorism is hijacking their innocent children who are being indoctrinated by the rhetoric of incitement and sectarianism.

He said that the government would brave terror challenges and pursue development programmes in all villages.

He urged all parties to co-operate and unite in renouncing terrorism, stressing the need to remain alert to foil plots which are still targeting Bahrain.

He commended the role of parliament in passing laws, describing legislative co-operation with the government as the cornerstone of Bahrain's democracy.

He also highlighted regional and international developments and challenges, calling for GCC unity to ward off threats. - TradeArabia News Service
