US calls for action against Bahrain rioters

Washington, May 12, 2012

Bahrain's protesters have no right to use Molotov cocktails and other dangerous tools, a veteran US Congressman said, adding that students and protesters who violated the law should be brought to justice to face charges.

Representative Dan Burton pointed out that Bahrain and the US are strategic and strong allies.

The US strongly backs Bahrain and those who seek to destroy it should realise this, he said in a statement to Bahrain News Agency.

The veteran Republican, who represents Indiana's Fifth Congressional District, hailed HRH the Crown Prince's calls for all Bahraini parties to sit at the table for negotiations.

He described Bahrain as a friendly country and an important US trade and security partner.

"The US maintains the Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain and backs the kingdom firmly," he said. "Some differences may emerge between both countries from time to time but I hope that long-term partnership and co-operation will continue," Congressman Burton said.

He pointed out the long-standing co-existence between the government and Bahraini people, describing "the existence of the osmosis between sects and religions as a positive facet of Bahraini society". – TradeArabia News Service
