5G subscriptions to hit 2.8bn in 2025: Ericsson

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, 20 days ago

Sweden-based Ericsson, a telecom equipment leader, has increased its forecast for global 5G subscriptions to around 2.8 billion by 2025, up from 2.6 billion seen previously as a result of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

"Long-term we look at 2025 2.8 billion 5G subscriptions", Patrik Cerwall, Head of Strategic Marketing at Ericsson, told a web seminar organised by the company.

The telecoms sector has experienced a surge in demand despite the economic uncertainty linked to the pandemic, as well as a result of more people work remotely from home to avoid contagion and adhere to lockdown rules, a Reuters report said.
