Workz achieves GSMA certification for eSIM data security

DUBAI, March 19, 2019

Dubai-based Workz Group, a leading mobile and IoT solutions provider, has been certified by the GSMA’s Security Accreditation Scheme (SAS) for secure data generation and personalisation of embedded SIMs for consumer and machine-to-machine (M2M) devices.

Personalisation refers to the upload of the SIM’s unique information to its smart chip. Workz is one of only six eSIM providers in the world to carry this accreditation and possesses the first certified production facility in the Middle East and Africa, said a statement from the company.

It is projected by McKinsey that eSIM devices will reach 1.4 billion connections worldwide by 2020. Yet despite this growth, security remains a primary concern with Kaspersky reporting that over 12 million smart devices were attacked in 2018.

To protect against such threats, Workz’ certification as an eSIM manufacturer (EUM) is part of its continued commitment to data security.

The company has previously been GSMA SAS-certified for eSIM production and ISO for information security. Having been in operation since 1997, Workz boasts a track record of managing over 50 billion data records without ever incurring a single security breach.

Catering to the growing need for secure eSIM technology, Workz’ certified facilities in Dubai and Bosnia and Herzegovina provide device manufacturers and IoT integrators with ready-to-use embedded SIM chips for eSIM devices such as connected cars, smartphones, wearables and smart meters which can instantly connect to a mobile network without a physical SIM card, from point of sale.

Tor Malmros, co-chief executive officer, Workz, said: “This certification furthers our objective of delivering secure and future-proof eSIM connectivity across both consumer and M2M markets.”

“We ensure our customers enjoy a cost-efficient eSIM solution that is quickly deployable to capitalise on the window of opportunity eSIM technology brings,” he added. – TradeArabia News Service
