Batelco, Cogent sign internet service deal

MANAMA, March 6, 2019

Batelco, the leading provider of digital solutions in Bahrain, has announced the signing of an agreement with Cogent Communications, widely recognised as one of the largest providers of internet services in the world.

The agreement will support the supply of internet traffic for Batelco and accommodate the company’s requirements as internet usage continues to grow in Bahrain and the region, said a Batelco statement.

The agreement was signed at the Capacity Middle East 2019, which was held from March 4-7 at the Grand Hyatt, Dubai.

The partnership with Cogent will enhance Batelco’s internet service and create new interconnection locations allowing Batelco’s customers to continue to benefit from high-quality performance speeds to facilitate new, high-bandwidth applications, the statement said.

Batelco places its customers at the core of its business strategy and strives to empower them in the fast-evolving digital society. This development will also contribute towards the enhancement of Batelco’s customers’ experience, as a result of added capacity and lower latency to content rate, it added.

Cogent Communications is a multinational, Tier 1 facilities-based ISP, operating one of the largest and highest capacity IP networks in existence. The company provides services to over 200 major markets located in North America and Europe and interconnects with over 6,500 other networks.

Batelco chief global business officer Adel Al-Daylami said: “Batelco is focused on providing the latest services and products as part of its commitment to its valued customers.

“Through our continuous pursuit of the latest technologies in the field of telecommunications, in cooperation with international leaders in the field, we are able to meet our strategic goals and deliver on our promises to our customers,” he added.

“We are excited to supply internet services to Batelco and its customers,” said Robert Dalton, sales director, Cogent Communications. “As demand for internet access increases, Cogent looks forward to delivering high quality and high-performance bandwidth to meet the needs of the kingdom and the region as a whole.”

Batelco continues to support the kingdom’s vision for the development of the telecommunications sector through the application of the latest technologies and expertise, which aims to further boost the National economy.  - TradeArabia News Service
