Ooredoo, Sparkle in deal to develop new telecom services

DOHA, April 12, 2016

Ooredoo Global Services (OGS), the wholesale arm of Ooredoo and Sparkle, the international services arm of Telecom Italia Group and a leading global operator, have signed a deal for new telecommunication services and knowledge transfer.

The memorandum of understanding will see the two companies collaborate on a range of joint initiatives and services in the voice, data, cloud, multimedia and digital spaces, said a statement.

Khalid Abdulla Al Mansouri, acting chief executive officer, Ooredoo Global Services, said: “Ooredoo Global Services continues to expand its ecosystem of global partners and enhance its international network to better support voice, capacity and roaming traffic.

"We’re very pleased to be working with Sparkle, who bring world-class infrastructure and significant additional protection and diversity to our global network.”

Alessandro Talotta, chairman and CEO of Sparkle, said: “We are very pleased we have signed this agreement with OGS and to be part of their strategy to introduce new international telecommunications services and to create synergies across the entire Ooredoo Group.

"This MoU strenghtens our relationship with OGS and supports Sparkle’s leading position in the Middle East.”

The agreement will enable OGS to leverage Sparkle’s state-of-the-art IP-MPLS backbone and the strategic positioning of Sicily as a hub for telecomunications services, particularly for Africa, Middle East and the Mediterranean basin, said the statement.

This will support OGS’ efforts to optimise its global network and promote Doha as a regional gateway for voice and data traffic, it said. - TradeArabia News Service
