Gulf Air wins major IT security award

Manama, July 7, 2014

National carrier Gulf Air said it has become the first Bahraini company and the first regional airline to win an information technology security award at Gulf Information Security Expo and Conference (GISEC) 2014.

Held at the Dubai World Trade Centre earlier this month, GISEC is the GCC region's first dedicated IT security awards event.

The airline was recognised for its information security measures and won in the "Best Data Loss Prevention" category.

"We are delighted to be recognised in this category - particularly as Gulf Air has now become the first Bahraini company to win at the GISEC Awards," Gulf Air information technology director Dr Jassim Haji said.

"This award is a testament to the collective efforts of our national carrier's IT department and a reflection of their commitment to implementing the highest industry standards as we continue to improve our services to continually adapt to the evolving technological environment," he stated.

Gulf Air first began implementing data loss prevention in 2010 and the past four years have seen the national carrier taking strides in introducing security measures to reduce potential IT security threats, complying with industry standards while also developing and managing real-time security reports to monitor activity across the organisation.

Gulf Air has been at the forefront of introducing several innovations and improvements in its IT operations including being one of few regional airlines to hold the global ISO certification for its information security management system.

The airline also recently introduced Private Cloud Computing in its IT operations that enables it to achieve much faster and more efficient business performance, resulting in enhanced customer service in every step of passengers' journeys.-TradeArabia News Service
