Etisalat, Huawei ink network expansion deal

Barcelona, February 28, 2014

The UAE's leading telecoms operator Etisalat has signed a deal with Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, to co-operate in mobile network expansion in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Northern Emirates over the course of 2014.

The agreement was announced during this week’s Mobile World Congress 2014 exhibition at Barcelona as both companies look to support the UAE government’s wider infrastructure plans for Smart City project and Expo 2020.

“This agreement will support Etisalat’s ongoing commitment to delivering innovative technologies and opening up fresh opportunities for consumers and businesses to connect throughout the UAE,” remarked Saleh Al Abdooli, the CEO of Etisalat UAE.

Haitham Abdulrazzak, the chief technology officer of Etisalat UAE, said: “With a large customer base in UAE today, creating a seamless and quality customer experience is a top priority for Etisalat. Our latest collaboration with Huawei builds on a long and successful history of collaboration which we are confident will drive even greater synergies across our mobile network.”

As part of the MoU, Etisalat will leverage Huawei consultancy and advisory services in developing broadband infrastructure.

Some of the specific objectives include achieving better resource synergy, network performance, and baseband utilization. Additional solutions related to advanced LTE, mobile antenna schemes, carrier aggregation, and other fields will also be provided by Huawei to Etisalat as part of the agreement.

Jason Li, the president of the Joint Committee of Regions, Huawei, said the company remains committed to bringing its customers the latest and most advanced services.

"Huawei is proud to extend its longstanding relationship with Etisalat and we look forward to opening up new possibilities by addressing society’s demand for higher-capacity, seamless communication experiences," he stated.

The MoU aligns to both companies ongoing commitment to provide information and communication technologies in the UAE as it look to become one of the world’s most connected and sustainable “Smart Cities”.

Peng Xiongji, the general manager of Huawei UAE, pointed out that network evolution and maintenance were central to Etisalat’s wider dedication to best-in-class services, and that is ultimately what Huawei can help deliver through this agreement.

"A particular focus will be placed on connecting more elements of the mobile network, simplifying the overall physical infrastructure, and allowing the network to be more easily scaled to meet Etisalat and the UAE’s ambitions for digital connectivity in the years to come," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
