Netgear launches new dual band router

Dubai, September 25, 2011

Netgear, a leader in branded networking and storage products, has launched its new wireless dual band gigabit router in the Middle East.

The N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router - Premium Edition, a ‘first of its kind’ home router offers a ‘clear channel selector’ and can create private cloud file sharing via the ReadyShare cloud service, a statement said.

The new device is being offered as the perfect home router complement, ably helping users avoiding clogged Wi-Fi channels and giving them the advantage of easy and secure access to personal files anywhere.

The clear channel selector, which was previously available only in more costly wireless routers for businesses, has now been added to Netgear’s latest home router model, which automatically detects when the Wi-Fi channel currently in use becomes overcrowded and switches to another less-crowded channel.

According to Netgear executives, Wi-Fi overcrowding has become a growing problem as Wi-Fi access points continue to increase, resulting in more competition for Wi-Fi frequencies from household devices like microwave ovens, cordless phones, baby monitors and from neighbours.

Clear channel selector creates a more reliable home Wi-Fi network by greatly reducing sudden disconnects and slowdowns, especially important for demanding applications such as HD video streaming, multi-player gaming and online voice or video chats.

"Home users in the Middle East region live in highly urbanized settings like closely built houses in neighbourhoods usually made up of high rise buildings,” said Ahmed Zeidan, channel sales manager, Netgear Middle East.

“In living conditions like these, users are bound to see over 12 Wi-Fi signals simultaneously, but with the need to connect to only one of these 12 channels. The N600 Premium Edition brings a new level of sophistication to home networks with a unique channel selector feature that will allow users to choose what Wi-Fi channel to connect to.”

“In addition, the unprecedented feature set of this advanced router makes wireless connections more reliable, breaks down the barriers for file-sharing in the cloud and much more - yet it’s easy to set up and manage. This is the future of home networking and its here today,” he added.

The ReadyShare cloud transforms any USB hard drive or flash drive into a private cloud storage when plugged into the N600 Premium Edition. This allows for easy and secure access to files within the home network or internet, the statement said.

Users can now avoid the tedious process of selecting a public file-sharing site to upload files, without worrying about privacy policies or if the service goes out of business. The ReadyShare allows for easy designation of files and readily identifies folders that can be shared.

Shared files can then be easily accessed from any computer with an Internet connection, as well as through apps from Netgear for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Android smartphones and Android tablets. ReadyShare will also allow home users to create their own cloud through easy-to-learn techniques from Netgear.

The N600 Premium Edition is easy to install and manage, with no CD required for installing and the router can be configured through a simple browser-based interface accessible on PCs, Mac's, smart phones, the iPad and other tablets.

The new device can ably select a channel for smartphone users to receive uninterrupted transmission and high quality audio reception, according to the statement. – TradeArabia News Service
