Tawazun, L3Harris to set up intelligence software unit in UAE
DUBAI, February 23, 2022
Tawazun Economic Council (Tawazun) and L3Harris Technologies have signed two Term Sheets in a collaboration to establish two centres that will help advance intelligent software and electro-optical technologies in the UAE.
The Intelligence Software Centre (ISC), to be executed under L3Harris’ joint venture with local partner Atlas Telecom, will serve multiple customers in the UAE and the region.
The ISC will develop and provide software products that enable the ingestion, analysis and visualisation of multi-source and sensor data from UAE customers. This will help customers generate intelligence from massive amounts of data, which are often in inconsistent formats, said a statement from Tawazun.
The ISC will use artificial intelligence to analyse behaviour, predict intentions and simplify work through the implementation and automation of workflows and collaboration capabilities, it stated.
The term sheets were signed yesterday (February 22) at Tawazun Pavilion in the Unmanned Systems Exhibition (UMEX) and the Simulation Training (SimTEX) by Abdullah Al Awani, Executive Director, Economic Programme Tawazun, and Gary Rosholt, Vice President UAE, L3Harris.
Following the signing, Matar Ali Al Romaithi, Chief Economic Development Officer at Tawazun, said the two Term Sheets come as part of Tawazun’s mandate to enable defence and security industries in the UAE and its efforts to accelerate technology transfer.
"It is through strong relationships and partnerships that we have the opportunity for further capability development, to attract investments for the private sector and to meet our partners’ needs," he added.
The Electro-Optical Centre of Excellence (EOCE), developed by Emirates Advanced Research and Technology Holding (Earth), is aimed at localising L3Harris’ Wescam MX assembly and service capabilities in the region.
The relationship will include the transfer of knowledge to develop a full co-assembly facility for L3Harris’ portfolio of Wescam MX electro-optical and infrared imaging and targeting systems, while offering depot level localised service capabilities to the United Arab Emirates’ Armed Forces.
The facility will further expand technological capabilities within the UAE, with the core focus on developing and supporting the local Aerospace industry.
"Our participation in these centres and in the development of human capabilities underscores L3Harris’ strong relationship with Tawazun and commitment to support the UAE and Middle East region’s defence and security sectors," said Rosholt.
"These initiatives will further enhance UAE defence and security technology capabilities, while helping to expand innovative career opportunities within the region," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
