New Seahawk MWS model displayed Navdex

DUBAI, February 19, 2019

UK-based MSI-Defence Systems is displaying a full-scale model of its new Seahawk Multi Weapon Station (MWS) at the ongoing Naval Defence and Maritime Security Exhibition (Navdex), being held in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

The event which kicked off on February 17 and will run February 21, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec).

Now through development, the MWS mounting will be completing final performance firing trials in the UK during the show week, reported state news agency Wam.

The most lightweight and compact member of the Seahawk family, and leveraging the video auto-tracker, ballistic computer/predicator and control console already proven in larger Seahawk mountings, the MSW is being aimed at small fast craft and unmanned surface vessels, USVs.

Designed for high structural stiffness and integrating high-torque zero-backlash drives, the MSW mounting adopts a single-arm construction (common to MSI-Defence's proprietary electro-optical surveillance system) with a universal soft mount able to receive 7.62mm or 12.7mm weapons from a variety of manufacturers.

Alternatively, the same soft mount can accept a 40mm grenade launcher.

MSI-Defence Systems has been selected by BAE Systems – which is a British multinational defence, security, and aerospace company, headquartered in London in the UK with operations worldwide - to provide the remote weapon station for an advanced USV testbed, added the report.
